Safety Net Services is proud to be sponsoring Mick Extance for a second year

Mick is one of Britain's most successful Dakar Rally riders, he has completed the famous 9000km long race across some of the toughest terrain on the planet more than any other Brit

This year Mick is hoping to beat his 2006 placing of 27th overall. On this new edition, he has three ambitions. "Go all the way to the end, of course, but also be the best-placed Brit and, why not, finish in the top 20".

Born in 1963 Mick started riding in competitions at 15, on his Yamaha TY175 Trials bike. This year he will be racing on his Honda CRF 4501 that is capable of 110 km per hr.


Dakar 2009 : A New Route and a new challenge

This year the Daker has crossed the ocean to visit South America. The Next Dakar Rally will start on January 3rd In Buenos Aires Argentina and will follow a route over to Chile and back again.

Although the rally has moved its location of its roots remain the same and the spirit is undamaged. South America offers amazing challenging landscapes and the people have a special culture and passion for motor sports and extreme adventure. So this year's Dakar promises to be as thrilling as ever before.

So far it has been an exciting year for Mick.

Race Paint UK has started preparing Mick's bike with all the new sponsorship logos and the bike has already had some high profile coverage.

Mick took part in a superb race challenge with the Bowler Nemesis Team for Richard Hammond's (Top Gear) new DVD. The race results are currently top secret but you can find out what happened on the day soon as the DVD will be on sale before Christmas.

Mick also has a new member in his team, Chris Hewgill of CKH Racing is managing all Mick's Media and PR work.

Chris aims are not only to ensure Mick has the best equipment and financial backing for the 2009 Rally, allowing him to concentrate on training, product development and practice, but also to look after Mick's sponsors..
